New research on magnetic navigation during breast cancer surgery has started

During breast-conserving surgery it is important that the surgeon precisely locates a tumor, even if the tumor can not be felt. All techniques available for detecting a tumor have disadvantages for patients as well as hospitals.

Therefore, during their MaMaLoc-2 research, medical researcher Gerson Struik and surgeon Taco Klem are comparing a new technique, that is using magnetism, with techniques that are currently being used. This research will be carried out in collaboration with the Nederlands Kanker Instituut Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam. The first results of this research are expected to be published in the spring of 2018.
