From the end of February, we started the study on thermal ablation as a treatment for early-stage breast cancer. This study is conducted at the Franciscus and Erasmus MC. Patients with a small tumor (< 2cm) without metastases are eligible for the study. Thermal ablation has been used for years to treat liver tumors, kidney cell tumors, thyroid tumors and benign breast tumors. Abroad, patients with breast cancer are also treated with this technique. With this study we want to demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of thermal ablation. The long term goal is to be able to provide this treatment to patients in order to avoid surgical resection. As a result, admission and general anesthesia will no longer be necessary for these patients. For more information about this study, please also see our media below and our page on our projects.
